We leave Hanoi early to reach our first destination, the small Tay village of Na Khan. We drive on small back roads, winding through forests and valleys with wild landscapes. We spend the night in the traditional Tay stilt house of Mr. Lo, village chieftain. Warm welcome and Ms. Bong, his wife, prepares a great meal. Distances / Timing: ~ 150km ~ 5h. Short drive from Na Khan to Ba Be on beautiful narrow road. Ba Be is a National Park covered by one of the few remaining virgin forests in Vietnam. Lunch at the house of the boat captain, Mr. Manh. Then an easy cruise on the lake and through the jungle, down the Gam river to the Dau Dang waterfalls. We spend the afternoon in the area, meeting up with our friends. Early departure for a long and beautiful ride. Small, easy road which recently replaced a dirt road. Scenery changes as we climb the mountain. Mountain, pass, no traffic at all! We go through the territory of black Tay, Doa, H’Mong, San Chi, to end in the Lo Lo ethnic area. Depending of the day of the week, we can visit the ethnic market of Bao Lac. We start to go to Meo Vac and then Dong Van. Many stops are planned for short walks in the villages to meet the ethnic minority such as H’mong ….. Short hike along the Ma Phi Leng Mountain (2000m high) to contemplate a beautiful view over the valley dotted with hemp fields in terraces, karst hills, stilts houses of H’mong, Dao and the Nho Que river. Very nice step in the heights of the province along China. Crossing passes, valleys estates, many countries with different cultures. The family and workers will show you around the gardens and explain their methods and philosophy. Every succulent meal you’ll enjoy here is organic, with fresh products from within the farm. Quiet morning with our friends from at Green Vietnam before we hit the road again, to get to our project LAVIEVULINH www.lavievulinh.com – Sustainable development – Education – Culture – Environment – Ecotourism. We are on the edge of Thac Ba lake, biggest reservoir of North Vietnam. Arrival for lunch, chilling out on the terrace in front of the lake, welcomed by the family and the apprentices of the project. We will relax this afternoon, enjoying the site, learning how to paddle like Dao people, or going for a small walk around.
